WHERE DID WE COME FROM?
The evolution of the art began with Guro Brandt Smith upon the founding of Kapatiran Suntukan Martial Arts. At that time, KSMA’s primary curricula were Aneh Palu Kali, Sadiq Kuntao-Silat and Pencak Silat Raja Monyet. Over time, the elements of these systems were incorporated in to one art that became Aneh Palu Kali-Silat.

Guro Jay Carstensen lead the Des Moines chapter of KSMA. Jay had studied martial arts for 18 years and in April 2011 he opened up a school to share his secrets with the world.

After meeting with the "tribal leaders" of the different KSMA chapters, Jay awarded me the rank of Full Instructor in February 2013. At Jays request, I took over training of the school. Later that year we had to close the KSMA Des Moines school due to Jay being diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer.

I took the school from a brick & mortar building back to the basement and back yard from whence the art was nurtured and refined.

The art has never stopped evolving, and because of this concept, Prime Kali-Silat was born.

GURO JACOB PRIME
At the age of 7 I started martial arts after watching the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Shortly after, I joined a local Tae Kwon Do dojo and fell in love with being a ninja! I continued my study in TKD well into my teenage years. In my early 20's I was fortunate enough to be invited to a back yard Muay Thai school in Des Moines Iowa.
While training Muay Thai, I met a man name Jay Carstensen that was on his way out of the Muay Thai world. Jay invited me to his back yard Dojo to learn some "unknown" martial arts called Silat and Kali.

I've been very fortunate to be invited & welcomed into back yard dojos, and I plan on continuing this tradition.

TURTLE
Turtle watches over us and protects us during our training. From time to time Turtle will join in the fray to keep us on our toes, never to give paws to our learning.

TRAINING WIZARD
This is the training wizard. He installs refinement in our techniques and skills. He's not afraid to break your stick!
